Pepper did leave her hand in his hold just because she felt like she needed to. In reality, holding her hand probably didn't help all that much, she thought, but she still couldn't take it away till it was almost time to get the car parked properly and she really needed both hands to do that.
And when she did get him home safely, she was out of the driver's seat and by him, ready for him to lean on her again. She just wanted to make sure he went to bed. She thought she had an idea how to get him to fall to sleep peacefully too.
