The sigh and the quiet words, "no, I'm not mad" slipped by her before she could stop them. What use was anything else anyway, since that was the truth.
Instead of trying to catch the words back, she straightened up against her slightly sagging shoulders and worked to arrange the covers and try to settle him more comfortably. She was going to ask him to see a doctor - tomorrow. Not now.
Now... more words slipped out, these without any bitterness, though maybe a slight teasing edge. Maybe. "And you don't want me to get wrinkles why? Because then you'd have to replace me with a brand new model?"
Maybe that was unfair. But maybe so was trying to get a laugh out of the embarrassment of somebody worried for you who was trying to help you, too!
